2 Ways To Fight Back Against Flu Season In The Office
Posted on: 11 September 2017
Flu season can be just as brutal in the office as it is in schools. With so many people so close to each other, it is easy for the flu to quickly spread and take down your entire office. This has a negative impact on the overall productivity of your business and ability to get work done. You can combat this by keeping your office as clean as possible during flu season.
#1 Keep The Floor Clean
You may be surprised how many germs can survive and be transferred via the floor in your office. The flu virus is really resilient, and can survive on the floor for over a day. If you have hard floor surfaces, such as vinyl or hardwood in your office, make sure that they are mopped and cleaned every day.
Even though carpet is not a hard surface, the flu virus can survive their as well. Additionally, dust mites and other particles that can make your employees sick can also survive in the carpet. It is a good idea to have your carpets vacuumed on a daily basis in all high traffic areas and to vacuum other carpet surfaces at least every few days to keep your office as clean as possible.
#2 Keep All Surfaces Sanitized
Second, you need to work together with your employees and commercial cleaning services to keep all surfaces clean and sanitized. The flu virus can survive on hard surfaces in your office and easily be transferred from one employee to another. Encourage your employees to wipe down their work areas on a daily basis, included their electronics. Provide your employees with special wipes designed for electronics for this specific purpose.
Set up and provide cleaning tools for the office kitchen or breakroom. Make it a business rule that everyone has to wipe down the area where they ate in the breakroom or kitchen when they are done. This will help reduce the spread of germs in your office.
Additionally, hire a professional cleaning service to take care of your office. During the workweek, have them come in every day or in the evening after everyone has gone home for the day. Make sure that your professional cleaning service wipes down all surfaces in the office, including half walls, countertops and work areas. You should also have all of your bathrooms professionally cleaned as well.
Fight back against flu season by keeping your office as clean as possible and enlisting the help of your employees and a professional cleaning service to keep everything nice and clean.
