First Time Pressure Washing? A Few Tricks To Know

Posted on: 27 January 2019

A pressure washer can be a great tool to help you clean with. However, if you have never used a pressure washer before, there are some tricks that you are going to want to know before you start using one.

What Type of Pressure Washer You Need

Pressure washers are powered one of two ways, with either gas or electricity. Both work well, depending on what you need to clean.

Gas pressure washers generally can reach higher PSI levels, which means that they can clean faster. Higher PSI levels also allow you to clean things that are really dirty. Gas pressure washers are also not hindered by a cord, so you can use them wherever you need to.

Electric pressure washers PSI is not as high, which is fine for most jobs you can use a pressure washer for around your home. In fact, less pressure is better if you want to use the pressure washer to clean your windows or clean your car. However, you are limited by the length of the cord attached to your pressure washer, but you don't have to deal with any gas.

The Size of the Pressure Washer

There are different size pressure washers. For cleaning up around your home, you don't need a professional or extra-heavy duty pressure washer. If you just want to clean your outdoor furniture or spray off a small patio, you need a light-duty pressure washer. If you want to clean larger surfaces, such as the siding on your home, you'll want a medium-size pressure washer. You only really need a heavy-duty pressure washer around your home if you have a two-story home and you need to reach and clean the second story.

The Right Type of Nozzle

There are different colors of nozzles that you can use with a pressure washer. A black nozzle gives you the lightest spray, and is great for getting things wet but not really for cleaning. A white nozzle works well for cleaning siding and windows. A green nozzle creates a more focused spray, good for cleaning your car, patio furniture, or your patio. A yellow tip creates an even more concentrated spray, good for washing concrete. A red nozzle creates a very powerful spray that can actually damage surfaces.

Think about what you want to use a pressure washer for and how you plan on using it. This will help you determine what type of power your pressure washer needs, the size of pressure washer you need, and the type of nozzle you need as well.

Teaching Your Kids To Clean Properly

If you were to tell your kids to clean your entire house top to bottom, how well would they be able to handle the job? Sometimes, even kids that are old enough to haul the vacuum upstairs can struggle to do the job effectively, which is why it is so important to focus on technique from an early age. I started thinking carefully about cleaning methods a few months ago, and it was really interesting to see how much of a difference my efforts made. Within a few months, my kids really mastered crucial concepts, and I was really pleased with the progress. Check out this blog for more information.
